Curriculum Vitae of Ambassador
–Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed, a career diplomat and A- grade Ambassador/ Secretary, has joined in the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin, Germany on 17 January 2017. Prior to this assignment and untill recently he was the First Resident Ambassador Extra-ordinary & Plenipotentiary to Portugal where he joined on 07 May 2013. He had also been concurrently accredited to the Republic of Cabo Verde and the Republic of Guinea Bissau from Lisbon. Before, he was A & B – grade Ambassador to Bhutan from 07 October 2010 to 28 April 2013; B- grade Ambassador (Additional Foreign Secretary) to Sweden from 01 September 2009 to 29 September 2010, with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway. Before that, he was B & C –grade Ambassador to Nepal from 25 September 2006 to 24 August 2009.
–Mr. Ahmed did his Masters with honours in Geology from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1982. He obtained First class in both Honours (1982) and Masters examinations with Talent pool Scholarship from the University for outstanding result in honours examinations. He has also DESS degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the International Institute for Public Administration in Paris, France. He also obtained Diploma in French Language from the Audio Visual Center for Modern Language in (CAVILAM) Vichy, France. He also attended courses on International Law at the Hague Academy for International Law at the Hague, the Netherlands.
–After joining in the foreign service of Bangladesh in January 1986 (Batch of 1984), he underwent a one year specialized training course at Foreign Affairs Training Institute (FATI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affair, Dhaka. He also attended Seventh Foundation Training Courses designed for the Bangladesh government officers irrespective of the cadres at the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Center (BPATC), Savar, Bangladesh and stood first in the course. He also had training in financial management at the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy, Shahbag, Dhaka.
–During his career, he served in different capacities in the Ministry of Foreing Affairs, Dhaka and the Bangladesh Missions abroad as well. In the Ministry, he looked after the Administration, Multilateral Economic Affairs, Europe Division, Americas and the Pacific Divisions and in the Missions, in Washington DC (twice–as First Secretary during 1991-94 and as Deputy Chief of Mission during 2003-05), Kathmandu (twice—as Counsellor during 1994-96 and as Ambassador during 2006-09), Kuala Lumpur, Rome, Cairo, attachment with Paris Mission. He attended and represented Bangladesh in many regional and international seminars on politics, economy, environment, human rights etc.
–Mr. Ahmed used to represent his department in the Unversity games in football, volleyball,cricket and basketball. He played for Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club, one of the leading sporting clubs in Bangladesh,in First Division Basketball League during late seventies. Apart from games, his hobby includes traveling, music, reading, photography, gardening, collection fo coins and stamps.
–He is married to Mrs. Daisy Ahmed, who did M. Com. In Finance from Dhaka University. They have one daughter Lamiya Mahpara Ahmed who did Masters in International Developement from University of Bath in the United Kingdom.
