Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin celebrates the “Victory Day-2020”
The “Victory Day-2020” was celebrated by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin, Germany today with due solemnity and fervor at the Embassy premise, in a limited format maintaining the local regulations for corona pandemic. The programme started with ceremonial hosting of the national flag by H.E. the Ambassador in presence of Embassy officials and a small number of expatriate Bangladeshis.

The presence then paid homage to the martyrs of our liberation war by laying floral wreaths at the replica of the National Martyr’s Memorial and portrait of the Father of the Nation and observing one minute of silence. After recitation from Holy Quran and Holy Tripitaka, messages of the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister and the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by the Embassy officials. The event then invited free-flowing discussion focusing on significance of the ‘Victory Day’and the various aspects of development and advancement of Bangladesh. Eminent Bangladeshis delivered speeches expressing their sentiments and future expectations on this occasion.


The Ambassador in his concluding speech summed up the discussion highlighting the immense importance and significance of the day. He recalled with deep respect the enormous sacrifices of our freedom fighters and martyrs for the independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu and urged all to work together e progress of the country to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu’s “Sonar Bangladesh” into reality. Special doa and monajah was then conducted seeking blessings of Allah for protection of all Bangladeshis from corona virus and eternal peace for the departed souls of the great martyrs of the liberation war, the Father of the Nation and his martyred family members; and praying for the advancement, peace and prosperity of our country.
Celebration of National Mourning Day-2020 by Bangladesh Embassy, Berlin, 15 August 2020
Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin observed the 45th Death Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day-2020 at the Embassy premise with due solemnity and fervor. The programme started with the ceremonial half- masting of the national flag by H.E. the Ambassador Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed in presence of Embassy officials, students and a group of NRBs and later by placing flower bouquet at the portrait of the Father of the Nation. The audience then visited the Exhibition of Photos titled- ‘the life and work of Bangabandhu’.


The second part of the programme commenced with recitation from the Holy Quran. Thereafter, one minute of silence was observed in honour of departed souls of the Father of the Nation and all members of his martyred family. Messages of the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister and the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by the Embassy officials. Then a video prepared by the Embassy on the life sketch of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tilted- “A Tribute to Bangabandhu” was screened before the audience.
Eminent expatriate Bangladeshis then took part in a discussion session at length on the life and philosophy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the importance of fulfilling his dream of ‘Sonar Bangla’.

The Ambassador wrapped up the programme with his concluding speech; urging all to convert this national grief into strength, resolution to work together for the greater future achievements of Bangladesh with duly narrating the contribution of Bangabandhu to the rise of an independent, sovereign Bangladesh. The programme ended by offering doa and munajah in seeking salvation for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members. Lastly, all participants of the programme were entertained with refreshment and lunch.

Meeting of Ambassador with OAV officials, Hamburg, 28 August 2020
H.E. Imtiaz Ahmed, Ambassador and Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Commercial Counsellor had a meeting with officials of Asia Pacific Business Association (OAV)- Ms. Almut Roessner, Executive Member of the Board & Ms. Barbara Schmidt-Ajayi, Regional Manager (South Asia) in Hamburg on 28.08.2020 and discussed possibilities for future collaboration.
This was followed by a meeting with Mr. Walter Stork, Honorary Consul General to Bangladesh in Hamburg and Mr. Peter Clasen, Proprietor, Wilhelm G. Clasen. Several issues such as the promotion of jute and jute products were discussed and both parties assured each other of their continuous cooperation and support.

Berlin Mission organizes Bangabandhu Cup Table Tennis Tournament, 07 March 2020
As part of the celebration of ‘Mujib Year’ and to observe the historic 7th March, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin, Germany organized ‘Bangabandhu Cup Table Tennis Tournament-2020’ on 7 March 2020 with due festivity at the Embassy premise.
The event commenced with cutting red-green ribbons and delivering welcoming remarks by special guest- H.E. Mr. Ahmed Latheef, Maldives Ambassador in Germany (and former National Team player of Maldives) and H.E. Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany. 24 players from different parts of Germany participated into the event in both singles and doubles category and the event was cheered by a good number of expatriate Bangladeshis.

The day-long competitions ended at around 3 pm and then the prize-giving ceremony took place, H.E. the Ambassador handed over certificates and trophies to the winners and medals to all participants of the event. The trophies and medals were specially made by the Embassy those contained logo of ‘Mujib Year’ and title of the tournament.

Berlin Mission held a successful Business Seminar on the eve of ‘Mujib Year’, 11 March 2020
Bangladesh Embassy in Berlin hosted a seminar titled- “Interaction with German Entrepreneurs” focusing on investment potential in Bangladesh and expansion of trade and commerce on 11th March 2020. The event was jointly organized by this Embassy with the Federal Association of Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA), a leading German business association and think tank.
The event commenced with welcoming remarks by H.E. Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany and BWA Board Chairman-Mr. Micheal Schuman. More than 35 businessmen from different sectors of Germany including H.E. Mr. Marcus Held, Mdb (Member of Parliament from German Social Democrat Party) participated into the event and actively interacted through comments, questions-answers and sharing their detailed views on the topic. Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy presented a power point report before the presence, highlighting the recent progresses- Bangladesh has made for creating a more business and investment-friendly environment and diverse opportunities.
In his speech and interactions, H.E. the Ambassador stressed on the initiatives of the government with regard to Special Economic Zones, Hi-tech Parks, jute plastic, ICT sector, green factories, one-stop service, agreements on avoidance of double taxation, ongoing mega projects, Vision-2021 and 2041 etc. and commented that under the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Bangladesh is currently the country of highest GDP growth in the world and is the next Asian Economic Tiger. The German parliamentarian and businessmen highly appreciated the initiatives taken by the Bangladesh Government and opted that the business relations and ties between these two countries would expand further in the coming days for mutual benefits.


The event ended with serving dinner of traditional Bangladeshi cuisines and distribution of promotional coat pin, leaflets, booklets, pamphlets etc. on business in Bangladesh.
Observance of the Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation and National Children’s Day-2020 by Bangladoot, Berlin, 17 March 2020
The Birth Centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2020 was observed by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin, Germany on 17 March 2020 with due respect, fervor and festivity despite the onset of the Corona virus pandemic. To bring the color and essence of festivity, the entire Embassy premise was decorated with colorful ribbons, balloons, posters, banners, photos, roll-up stands etc. themed on the ‘Mujib Year’.
The program commenced with hoisting the national flag to full mast by H.E. Mr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Ambassador in presence of other Embassy officials and members of Bangladesh community. The Ambassador then placed a floral wreath, lighted candles at the portrait of the Father of the Nation. A special video on the life of Bangabandhu titled “Autobiography of Bangabandhu” was screened before the audience and a ‘Photo Exhibition’ displaying exclusive photos of important events of the life of Bangabandhu was visited by the presence.

The second part of the programme invited a free-flowing discussion where members of expatriate community spontaneously took part and expressed their emotion and sentiments for Bangabandhu and Bangladesh. In the concluding speech, H.E. the Ambassador recalled with deep respect the historical contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the independence of Bangladesh. He also discussed the various aspects of the life of Bangabandhu mentioning specifically his deep love for the people of Bangladesh and urged upon all to cultivate the ideals of the Father of the Nation for building a prosperous and happy nation dreamt by Bangabandhu.

A cake-cutting ceremony in memory of Bangabandhu and to inaugurate the ‘Mujib Year’ took place and special doa and monajat was then conducted seeking salvation for the departed soul of the Father of the Nation and the deceased members of his family and for the future progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
